What is a newborn lifestyle session?
Newborn lifestyles sessions are about documenting the real life moments and excitement of having a brand new baby at home. It is a natural, stress-free photoshoot that captures the wholeness of everything about having a new family member in your home. I take photos of the baby alone and the baby with their their parents. There is no naked posing of the newborn. Newborn lifestyle will be done in the home, my studio, or outdoor location, including immediate family, within the first month of life (*Best within 10 days of birth, but up to 3 months is fine)
Where does this take place?
The photoshoot will take place in your home or in my studio. If you would like an outdoor location for your newborn shoot, we can discuss that as well and I have plenty of options for you to pick from as well. In the home, I mostly will shoot in the nursery and master bedroom if you desire. In-home photoshoots require a lot of natural light, so I will ask that you turn off your home lights and open any blinds you may have to let in the most light. Also if you have anything blocking a big window, I will also ask that if possible you to move it out of the way for our session.
What if my baby gets upset during the shoot?
As a twin mom myself, I can totally understand this concern, and with that being said, all babies get upset at some point in the day, and that is completely normal and nothing to worry about. These shoots are up to 2 hours long to allow for any time need be for the baby to be fed or changed and soothed. If you're baby gets upset, don't stress, they will eventually calm down and if you need my help for anything, please ask I am more than willing to help calm your baby.
Do you bring/provide anything?
Yes, I have some neutral colored swaddles and blankets that I will bring with you if you would like. I also bring a couple of baskets, buckets, and any little props that I have that I feel will help enhance the shoot. I do not "pose" the baby the style of my photography is more natural and what you would find in real life with your baby. Less is more though in these instances, you want the focus to be on the baby not everything else. Posing of the baby is Collection II only.
What should the parents/siblings wear?
First and foremost you should be comfortable, you just had a baby and it's important to wear something that is easy for you and your family. I am a big believer of neutral colors and clothing that is not too bright and distracting for these type of shoots. Although, I do love a pop of color to highlight the baby. Whites, navy, gray, mustard, blacks, dark green, and deep orange photograph nicely. Mom can wear leggings, and a sweater, or flown dress. Dad should wear solid colors. Siblings should wear solid colored outfits as well.
How should we dress our baby?
I will provide neutral colored swaddles for your baby if you would like. I like to keep it simple for the baby so the focus is on the baby. As new parents sometimes it's easy to want to get a million outfits for the baby to wear. I suggest picking 2 outfits you really like and we will go from there. The less you have to change your baby, the better and more comfortable your baby will be for the shoot, and we want that. I do find that pattern swaddles with the colors I mentioned above or a solid colored swaddle photograph great on the baby. Also, I do love bows, I think they are so cute, but most of the time, the babies do not like them, so if you really want a bow I would suggest picking 2 and keeping them on the smaller side. I also really love plain onesies and if you want your baby in just a diaper that works also. Remember this shoot is about the naturalness of your family, and we want it to reflect what your family life is like.
Do you charge more for multiples?
Absolutely NOT! I am a twin mom, so there are no extra fees!
