What do we wear?
So...you just booked and are super excited about getting photos done, but now you're stressed out about what to wear, right?
Don't worry, I am going to make this as simple as possible for you.
The following are MY ideas of what I THINK photographs great, but ultimately these are your photos, so you should wear whatever makes you and your family happy, that's the most important thing.

The following are MY ideas of what I THINK photographs great, but ultimately these are your photos, so you should wear whatever makes you and your family happy, that's the most important thing.
Above are colors I like a lot. They are pretty neutral and compliment nature (which is 99% of my photoshoots) Nothing is super bright and they all have a slight mute to them. These colors look nice on camera and make your skin tone look natural as well. Try to stick with these colors, and black of course works. If the color is naturally produced on earth, it is a great place to start.
The colors above are all very bright and scream wow, but not in a good way. You can get away with some of these colors, IF it is not super close to your skin tone. But, overall I try to steer people away from fluorescents and extremely BRIGHT colors, because they take over the photos and give them a different effect. Some oranges photograph beautifully, but it depends on the location also that you are choosing, if you truly love orange we will chose the right location for you (you will also see I have some oranges in my client closet as well)
Overall Takeaways
- Women & Girls = Long, flowy dresses work great, they photograph well and add movement and dimension to your photos. Try to stay away from short dresses, they limit you. I also like slits they give you movement and do not constrict you.
- Men & Boys = Button down shirts, khakis, solid colored pants (shorts also), solid colored overalls, solid colored t-shirt (try to stick away from polos) No fishing shirts or cargo/bulky pants
- Jeans - if you want them, make sure they are dark in color or light in color - meaning everyone wears dark or everyone wear light (usually for bigger groups)
- Logos - try to avoid if possible
- Make sure your clothing fits, you don't want to look like a busted can of biscuits or like you are being eaten by your outfit.
- Everyone doesn't have to wear the same color, actually no one should. If multiple people are wearing whites, it's best to use the same material so they photograph the same. Meaning, all wear cotton, or all wear satin, no in-betweens. If you have an undershirt under a white shirt it WILL show up in photos.
- Don't go too crazy with patterns, if you need one, pick one person and have the pattern subtel or it will highjack all the photos
- Layering is good, it adds to your photos, dark jean jacket, cover-ups , hats, etc
- Start with one outfit first, usually moms. Have her pick what she wants to wear first and then chose the rest of the outfits, it's much easier and will help everything fall into place.
- No athletic shoes, no bra straps hanging out, make sure dad has a belt or something secured on so his boxers are not peaking out
- If you are planning on kissing your lover, children, animals, please wear lip STAIN, not STICK or gloss. Your color will get all over them and we don't want that!
- Also, please wear your make-up natural or light (unless there is a specific theme you are going for) if your face has bold contours and your "bake" under your eyes you will not like the way it looks with a professional camera. Also, if your face is a different color than your neck and body, it will stand out, so please wear it naturally if possible.
- For larger groups I suggest picking 1-2 colors for example the beach pick blue and green or blue and green and have everyone wear different shades of those colors. Usually for beach someone picks blue and then everyone else goes with different blues and white jeans, khakis, blue and white dress, you get the idea.
